Program Overview
Low-income Americans face difficulties feeding and caring for themselves and their families. Overall, 1 in 7 households experienced food insecurity in 2024. But these challenges are not spread equally among groups in the United States. Black and Latinx households reported double the level of food insecurity as compared to White, non-Latinx households. The ability to provide good quality care to loved ones is also tough for Americans to access. Families can’t afford care, care workers aren’t paid enough to feed their families, and our most vulnerable loved ones — children, aging parents and family members with disabilities — can’t get access to the care they need to thrive.
Policies that support communities to feed and to care for themselves and their families exist and are proven effective. From Now On Fund invests in strengthening organizations and supporting movements that are demanding better care and better food systems for lower income Americans.
Strategies
Leverage the power of public programs to ensure that existing initiatives — such as those supporting healthy food access and in-home care for low-income older adults — are stable and well-funded.
Fight for the safety and wellbeing of food system workers and care workers, whose labor makes all other work possible.
Advance opportunities for the affected communities to participate in and shape policies for their food and care systems that will endure and reflect their needs.

Better Food Policy Fund
Core support for food policy councils working with and through community members and local government to push food policy forward.
Food Research Action Center (FRAC)
Core support for FRAC, a leading national non-profit dedicating to ending poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States.
National WIC Association (NWICA)
General support for NWICA, the nonprofit voice of the 12,000 public health nutrition service provider agencies who serve over 6.7 million participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
CA Domestic Workers Coalition
Support for regranting to seven partner organizations that compose the Steering Committee of the California Domestic Workers Coalition.
National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA)
General support for NDWA’s mission to promote respect, recognition, and rights for more than 2.2 million nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers who do the essential work of caring for our loved ones and our homes.
Hand-In-Hand
Core support to foster good jobs for domestic workers and increased access to care for older adults and people with disabilities. Hand in Hand’s unique approach is to organize and engage individual employers to stand with workers in creating a care system that is equitable and fair.
